The problem

A long list should not feel like a test of patience.

When a user has to choose from a large set of options, scrolling alone asks them to do too much work. SearchDialog packages a familiar search pattern into a reusable component so Android teams can get to a confident selection quickly.

The decisions

Make the useful path the easy path.

  • One small integration: ship it as a simple Gradle dependency rather than a bespoke screen for every product.
  • Meet teams where they are: document clean initialization paths for both Java and Kotlin.
  • Keep the handoff clear: return the selected item’s id and title through a direct callback.

The outcome

A tiny utility with a life beyond one app.

The library has earned 82 GitHub stars and 26 forks—evidence that a focused solution can travel farther than the problem that first inspired it.
